Looms
The Good Wood Slant Looms are beautifully crafted looms made to accommodate long warps. They are designed for the weaver who wants to create scarves, sashes, yardage for clothing construction, panels for table runners or placemats, or long tapestries. The warp yarns and finished cloth are wound on beams (rollers) and are advanced as the weaving progresses. The Slant Looms have a warp capacity of five to ten yards, depending on the thickness of the warp yarns. They are by far the easiest long-warp loom to warp and weave on that we know of! There is no threading of the warp through holes, and the built-in raddle helps make an evenly-tensioned warp. The solid brass cranks that turn the beams are attractively polished to a sheen that gives the perfect accent to the handsomely oiled wood. The Good Wood Slant Looms are the answer for the frustrated weaver who can't find the time or space to weave. So often we hear weavers say that they have been unable to weave in years because "I've moved into a smaller home," "My weaving studio has been turned into a nursery," "I'm working two jobs and don't have the time to warp my loom," etc. The Slant Loom solves these situations because it is compact and thus easy to store and transport; and best of all, it is so fast and easy to warp. (A 13 inch wide warp, five yards long, as prepared on the Good Wood Warping Board, can take as little as 20 minutes to put on the Slant Loom and have ready to begin weaving.) Why Does the Slant Loom Slant? The slant is a unique, ergonomically sound feature of the Good Wood Slant Looms. With the exception of some tapestry looms, most looms have the weaving surface (the area where the eyes look and the hands work) horizontal. The slant of the Good Wood Slant Loom puts the weaving surface in a much better position for our bodies. Our heads do not need to tilt down as much. The arm motions while weaving are natural and involve less reaching. The result is that weaving on the Slant Loom is much more comfortable!
